Call for Submissions - 4th annual group Christmas Pottery Show

Attention Potters!

Swoon is pleased to announce that from Dec. 7th – Dec. 24th we will be hosting Christmas Presence 4 – Group Pottery Show and Sale

This is becoming a popular event and people are already looking forward to it in the upcoming season! Like last year, I invite you to bring whatever, preferably newer work and as much as you want. We will show as much as possible. Also, this is not like a regular art show where work is left until the end. People will take the work with them when purchased, making room to refresh inventory and the space.  In order to be displayed for the opening, work needs to be delivered to the gallery on or before Dec. 2nd. However, once the show has opened artists are welcome to bring more pieces throughout the month.

Our consignment rate is 30% for anything under $100 and 40% for anything over.
Let me know if you are interested and if you have any questions. If you have not shown work at Swoon before, contact me right away with images of your work! There is only so much space but I will include as many people as possible. Also be sure to let other potters in the community know.

Join design leaders and culinary giants

East Coast Living is thrilled to be presenting Dine By Design East, a fabulous showcase of interior design and local cuisine that celebrates many of the top creative minds working in Atlantic Canada today.

Ten top Nova Scotia design groups have each been assigned a 10-by-10-foot blank canvas in which to unleash their imagination and create a spectacular dining room space. A top local chef has been matched with each designer to create a special menu inspired by the dining room.
Everything will come together in a dazzling Gala evening on Thursday October 3 at 6 p.m. We invite you to come out and celebrate the incredible dining room designs and sample the delicious food. The designers and chefs will be there discussing what inspired their creations, making it a wonderful chance to see—and taste—the results of their hard work.

The Gala also features six pop-up galleries with a great selection of local artwork available for purchase, a silent auction, as well as wine, beer and spirit samples from the region, plus much more.

Proceeds from Dine By Design East will benefit design education at NSCAD University in memory of Amber Harkins, former editor and creative director of East Coast Living who passed away from cancer last year.

The event takes place in a transformed Olympic Community Centre at 2304 Hunter Street in Halifax. The design spaces will be open for public viewing October 2 to 6 from noon to 8 p.m. each evening, and from noon to 6 p.m. on the weekend.

Please join us by purchasing tickets for the Gala evening and for General Admission viewings. Visit the Dine By Design East website to learn more about this unique event. You can follow us on Twitter at @DBDEast.

Call for Submissions: Our 3rd Annual Group Halloween Show

Spectre – A Halloween Group Show It is a part of our common history; from our childhood fear of the haunted house down the street, to attempting to contact the dead through a séance or Ouija Board. As a society we are obsessed with the idea of ghosts. In traditional belief and fiction, a ghost is the soul or spirit of a dead person that can appear, in visible form or other manifestation, to the living. Descriptions of the apparition of ghosts vary widely from an invisible presence to translucent or barely visible wispy shapes, to realistic, lifelike visions. Ghosts are generally described as solitary essences that haunt particular locations, objects, or people, though stories of phantom armies, ghost trains, phantom ships, and even ghost animals have also been recounted. This is not an easy call for submissions. You will be required to think outside of the “white sheet”. How does one capture, the essence, emotion and the mystery surrounding something so intimate and personal. Let us summon the creative spirits that they might guide us in telling their tale. In the meantime try not to get spooked!

This juried show will take place October 19, 2013 – November 3, 2013, with an opening reception on Oct.19 from 2-5pm.   We are asking that artists submit only two images. Remember, the jury only has your image to base its decision on so the quality of your photo is very important. Be sure to attach your image as a jpeg and that it is a large file.  Images for consideration, not the actual work, must be emailed to the gallery by Sept 21, 2013. (info@swoonfineart.com) Submissions will be reviewed by a jury, and artists will be notified of the results by phone or email.  Work must have been created within the last year and must not have been previously shown. Artists can submit up to two works and should include the size, price and medium of each piece. Artists in all mediums are encouraged to participate.   (Note – If framing is required- works on paper should contain a single white matt and a simple black frame; works on canvas (2” stretchers) that are unframed must have finished edges and works on canvas that require frames (thin stretchers) should be in a simple black frame)  All accepted work must be delivered to Swoon on, or before, Oct.12th, 2013.

I look forward to being haunted by your submissions!
