“A monster is any fictional creature, usually found in legends or horror fiction that is often hideous and may produce fear or physical harm by either its appearance or its actions. The word "monster" derives from Latin monstrum, an aberrant occurrence, usually biological, that was taken as a sign that something was wrong within the natural order. The word connotes something wrong or evil; a monster is generally morally objectionable, physically or psychologically hideous, and/or a freak of nature” From Wikipedia

I look forward to seeing your submissions!

"When I draw or paint a subject, whether a river or an animal portrait, I try to portray its inner essence, its spirit, so to speak.  Since this is what draws me to a subject to begin with, I feel it's very important that I work at a piece until I have captured this feeling.  When the viewer can also feel this presence, I consider the work a success." - Sue Westby

About Sue:

A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Sue developed a life-long interest in nature and art. Careful observation and attention to detail result in a painting style that captures the essence of a subject. An accomplished scientific illustrator and natural science artist, she works in watercolours, acrylics, oil paints, pencil and pen & ink to produce landscapes, still life, animal studies and scientific illustrations.A graduate of the Visual Arts degree program at the University of Ottawa, Sue has exhibited her art in many juried shows and galleries as well as having her scientific illustrations published in peer reviewed journals and books. Her work can be found in many private and corporate collections, both nationally and internationally. From her home and studio on Nova Scotia's South Shore, Sue continues to paint the natural world and produce illustrations for scientific publications.
